I was so excited last night to finally get a glimpse of the baby red-bellied woodpeckers. Now that they are bigger they are sticking their heads out of the nest while waiting for mom and dad to return with their meal. I missed a great shot when dad returned with a giant spider. Junior jumped and gobbled it so quickly I was left with a big blur in the photo. I adjusted the shutter speed hoping for a repeat performance, but no such luck. There was only one giant spider on the menu last night and this novice photographer blew it. Here are a few of the photos I did capture.
Here is mom returning with some bugs. If you look closely into the nest you can see the baby coming to greet her.
They feed the babies so quickly she was gone before I took the next photograph. I did get a picture of junior squawking for more dinner.
“Mom? Hey Mom? Where did you go?”

I love the pictures of the baby birds! The “one giant spider on the menu tonight” had me cracking up!

Thanks Logan. Hopefully this weekend there will be more giant spiders on the menu and I’ll be ready with the camera!

Nice pic. Is this in your yard?
Missie
Yes! They had a nest above the treehouse. Haven’t seen anyone using it the last few days. Hopefully they were old enough to leave the nest and they weren’t a meal for the hawk!
