This weekend I finally had a chance to complete my DIY upcycled glass bird feeder project. Unfortunately the job that pays the bills has been keeping me busy the last couple of weeks and not leaving a lot of time for creativity and the garden.
I love the pizzazz this simple project adds to my garden and the added benefit of keeping the birds happy and fed. I have been stopping by a couple of thrift stores on a regular basis lately and stocking up on any glassware that catches my eye. I have begun quite a collection and have been fortunate to receive some recent glass donations from a family member.
SUPPLIES
Glassware – decorative vases, bowls, plates, etc.
GE Silicone II Clear Caulk – You can get this at the hardware store or here on Amazon
A pole – I used some bamboo from the gardening center.
Birdseed
TOOLS
Level
Caulk Gun
Simply use the silicone caulk to put your pieces together in your desired design. Make sure you use a small vase or bottle on the bottom that will allow you to slide it onto the pole. I had to use a little duct tape on the pole to make the feeder more stable. If you would prefer the squirrels weren’t climbing over your new garden creation try filling it with safflower seeds. Squirrels don’t like safflower seeds, but plenty of other feathered visitors do.
Now relax with a cocktail and enjoy your garden!
