The changing of the seasons in South Florida isn’t very dramatic, but one of the highlights I enjoy is the challenge of identifying the many migrating birds passing through. We have quite a few stop by our backyard to rest on their journey to somewhere even further south.
Of the birds that visit I find the Warbler family the most difficult to identify. There are so many that are similar in color and markings, especially if you are trying to identify a female. Your best bet is to find the male she is hanging around with!
I believe this little one is a female Black Throated Blue Warbler. The fact that I have positively identified a male in the backyard helped me come to this conclusion. I haven’t been able to photograph the male, but here is a link if you are interested in seeing the stark contrast between the two.
Anyone out there with a different opinion, please let me know. Maybe I will catch sight of her again before she leaves to finish her journey.
In the meantime, isn’t she sweet?
